'The Killer Inside Me': Watching Casey Affleck beat Jessica Alba just too much

Review by Steve Salles - July 30th, 2010

What begins as an interesting premise, of a small-town deputy sheriff who has a very dark side, gets so caught up in the horrifying manner in which he kills that it’s almost too disturbing to watch.

West Texas deputy Lou Ford (Casey Affleck) seems like a nice enough guy. He’s well-dressed and well-mannered like a Southern gentleman should be.

Only he has a violent side that comes to the surface when he meets a masochistic hooker (Jessica Alba) living on the outskirts of the county. He’s supposed to go out there and run her out of town, but when she slaps him silly, he returns the favor and thus awakens the beast inside.

Day after day, these two hook up in some of the angriest and most aggressive sex scenes I’ve ever seen in a mainstream movie. When he plots to kill her and a rich townie at the same time, blaming it on a lover’s spat, it gets downright brutal.

Watching Casey Affleck repeatedly punch Jessica Alba into a bloody pulp is a horrifying sight that will haunt me for a long time. And just when you think he’s done, he’s not.

The rest of the film features Deputy Ford trying to cover up his mistakes for what he thought was the perfect crime.

Now, I get the psychological aspect of this film and that works, but the gut-wrenching violence, especially against the women, is more than I could take. It’s like watching domestic-violence porn. No, thank you.

I guess you’d have to applaud the acting. I certainly believed it. Doesn’t mean I’d pay to see it.
